I'm a philosophy student that tends to post about really serious things unseriously and about really unserious things seriously.

The press is so powerful in its image-making role, it can make the criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. This is the press, an irresponsible press. It will make the criminal look like he’s the victim and make the victim look like he’s the criminal. If you aren’t careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed and loving the people who are doing the oppressing. If you aren’t careful, because I’ve seen some of you caught in that bag, you run away hating yourself and loving the man — while you’re catching hell from the man. You let the man maneuver you into thinking that it’s wrong to fight him when he’s fighting you. He’s fighting you in the morning, fighting you in the noon, fighting you at night and fighting you all in between, and you still think it’s wrong to fight him back. Why? The press.

George Zimmerman’s legal team begins full-scale social media campaign
Attorney Mark O’Mara says the campaign was launched in an effort to discredit fake websites and profiles. Zimmerman, whose first website netted him over $200,000 in donations, now has a virtual presence on Twitter and Facebook, as well as a much more polished site. All three are being maintained by O’Mara who, in his first post online, said he understands “it is unusual for a legal defense to maintain a social media presence on behalf of a defendant, but we also acknowledge that this is a very unusual case.” source

Right-Wing Photo Purportedly of The Trayvon Martin Shot By George Zimmerman IS 100% NOT THE SAME TRAYVON MARTIN!!! →

mohandasgandhi:

thepoliticalfreakshow:

[NOTE: I’ve seen the right-wing do some pretty insulting and downright demeaning things to everyone opposite of their political party. But this takes the cake for the most shocking! The right-wing and its followers are devoid of any rational grasp on anything remotely related to reality!

Look for this to be on Fox News nonstop for the next week! I’m giving you a heads-up to prepare you for a new, crazier round of insanity that I have never seen before.]

The neo-Nazis over at Stormfront were the first to start passing off this photo of one, “Trayvon Martin,” (Here’s the link to Facebook) in an attempt to show that the now deceased Trayvon Martin was some sort of gangster. Judging from many of the comments, I guess some folks are literally attempting to justify a possible murder – on their way to church!

One small detail I must point out; this photo that is being passed around on Facebook and right-wing blogs, is NOT the same Trayvon Martin who was gunned down by George Zimmerman.

I’m just waiting for someone to tell me that, while the photo may be fake, the story is still true. Ugh… Conservatives have a way of never letting things like facts get in their way.

UPDATE 10:24 am: Breitbart.com blogger Dan Riehl has now admitted that “it doesn’t appear to be the same Trayvon Martin.”

Wrong Trayvon Martin Photo On Facebook

Listen to these people:

“Oh look. We didn’t have to dig too deep for recent pics of Trayvon. Not the sweet, innocent 10 y.o. Trayvon the MSM’s shoving down our throats. Looks like T-von was nothing more than a skittles toting, punk-a$$ gangsta wannabe. Hmm. Funny we haven’t seen these pics plastered all over MSNBC and CNN yet…”

Jennifer Bias Woooooooah…he has a picture of himself in his boxers showing and *gasp* MIDDLE FINGERS TOO?! Oh noes! We’ve been hoodwinked! He definitely deserved to be shot for walking around in a neighborhood. /sarcasm. Seriously? This is all the other side can come up with? So sad.

Brien Bowers pretty much. There were also witnesses that saw him on top of the shooter beating on him. So. Where is that in the news? They post a pic of him when he was younger trying to make everyone feel sorry. Well might want to find out exactly what he was doing and what he was up to when he got shot.

Jennifer Bias Police told him not to engage him (not that I’m all for listening to the police, but this is common sense…if you see someone you don’t recognize and this is a “neighboorhood watch” scenerio, don’t take matters in your hands unless your life or property are in danger…911 call anybody?). You’re still talking about someone who was armed vs a kid who was not.

Jen G West He’s just a kid. Kids do lots of stupid stuff, they don’t deserve to die for it!

Gov. Rick Scott (R) Florida weighs in on Trayvon Martin’s death and reveals more about the state’s investigation.

As I posted earlier this week, Anderson Cooper did a very interesting segment on the George Zimmerman 911 call, and the possible racial slur. Gary Tuchman explores a crucial part of the 911 call George Zimmerman made to police before Trayvon Martin died.

While we’re on the subject, here’s a photo of Ron Paul with Don Black, founder of the neo-Nazi site Stormfront, at the Values Voter Presidential debate in Fort Lauderdale on September 17, 2007.

UPDATE 12:32 pm:

It gets even better: Dan Riehl makes a huge mistake in the post that I took a screenshot of below, in assuming the top photo to be the original – it’s not.  If you follow the link to the article at the Miami Herald, read the caption underneath the photo:.

A photo of Trayvon Martin wearing a hoodie was used on banners and signs carried by protesters in New York City on March 21, 2012. MARIO TAMA / GETTY IMAGES

Well, guess what? The photo Dan Riehl assumes to be “the original,” is actually a photograph of a low resolution copy of a picture on a protest sign.

Was the Trayvon Martin Photo Altered?

Dana Loesch, ‘Photoshop Expert,’ on Trayvon Martin and the Miami Herald

Here’s Dana Loesch on her radio show employing some weapons-grade ignorance by blindly running with this false information, while actually accusing the Miami Herald of Photoshopping the photo! Wow! It’s not Photoshop, pictures of pictures of pictures, can alter color.

UPDATE 12:42 pm: Dan Riehl has posted a rebuttal to his critics:

“I pointed out that some media outlets appear to prefer using an image of Trayvon Martin that has been altered in a manner that makes him appear to be much lighter in skin color than he actually was. Said image has been enhanced to make him look so much lighter, even his facial features appear altered at that point.”

“…By seeming to prefer using a lighter image of Martin to further fuel the story line that he was a total innocent in the encounter and Zimmerman is guilty before all the facts are clear, my concern is that they feel that making Martin look less black in the eyes of the their readers, somehow makes him look less guilty of something.”

Mr. Dan Riehl is being quite disingenuous on several points: First, Dan Riehl is basing his altered image theory on pure speculation; speculation that is based on his FALSE premise that the top photo is the original, when in fact, it’s a photo of a photo of a photo – not the “original,” as Riehl claims in his post. Riehl clearly thinks the copied photo is the original, and closer to the actual color of Martin. Riehl never makes mention of this fact in his rebuttal. He offers zero as far as evidence to support his twisted theory that the photo has been altered to make him look more white.

Next, Dan Riehl speaks in foggy approximation, saying in one breath both that the media merely “prefer[ed]” using a lighter image, while at the same time claiming the image has been outright altered, as the title “AP Running Photoshopped Image Of Trayvon Martin” clearly states (The AP photo is the actual original). However, Dan fails to provide evidence to support his theory.

UPDATE 8:05 pm:

The mistaken Trayvon Martin photo that is being circulated online keeps growing; now Michelle Malkin’s ‘news’ site Twitchy, has posted the bogus FB photo:

Trayvon MartinThen we have these two creations:

Fake Trayvon Martin Photo

See how one fake photo grows into an army of fake photos! The folks loyal to the GOP, are truly reality impaired…

Fake Trayvon Martin Photo

UPDATE 9:42 pm

Ok folks, just to put an end to this Trayvon Martin photo thingy. Here’s a screenshot of the neo-Nazi website Stormfront. They have been putting out fake quotes, photos, and information for many years. The latest is this Trayvon Martin photo that Stormfront posted – only it’s the wrong Trayvon Martin. It was then picked up by the big blogs like, Michelle Malkin, who later pulled the photo after discovering that it was fake. Still, many on the right are passing several versions of this fake photo like wildfire.

Stormfront Fake Trayvon Slimm Martin Photo

Now here’s the real Trayvon Slimm Martin Facebook wall:

Trayvon Slimm Martin Facebook wall

This is disgusting. Even if that photo were of Trayvon Martin, what would it matter? You know, I’ve uploaded pictures of myself onto this website giving the finger to Rand Paul, Republicans, and anti-feminists as a joke but I’m assuming no one would have a problem with that because my skin isn’t Black. I wouldn’t care if Trayvon took the most derogatory pictures of himself in the world. No one deserves to be murdered on the street for any reason but especially not because of their race and it’s absolutely horrific that racists are trying to further turn Trayvon into the villain.

If Trayvon had been white, the entire country would be absolutely outraged. Well, actually, let’s be real here…. If Trayvon had been white, he wouldn’t be in the ground right now.

^ This is good research and reporting, though of course it is a sad state of affairs when we have to be doing investigations into whether or not a photo of Trayvon flipping the bird is real or not - as if that should matter in any way. Still, this is good work.
