I'm a philosophy student that tends to post about really serious things unseriously and about really unserious things seriously.

I was once described as a "beautiful, intelligent iguana".

aaahhhh I LOVE that quote it’s the best.

Yeah, the more and more I think about it, it’s probably the only statement about Ethics in philosophy that’s ever made sense to me.

it’s one of those quotes that keeps you up at night, which probably means its super important.

I will admit (at risk of drawing excoriation from a lot of corners) to being well and substantially interested in some kantian ethical/moral statements, but he certainly never manages to set anything out as catchily as Deleuze here.

Oh definitely. I’m totally into pretty much everything Kantian, from what I’ve read of him, even if at times I disagree with him. He’s a pretty perfect thinker. But he’s definitely lacking in being particularly catchy.

Deleuze’s statement seems a lot more the type of thing I’d want to take to heart were I to make the sudden decision to leave most everything behind and take a boat somewhere. Like, with that question people ask you a lot when they’re trying to get to “know you” - “If you were stranded on a desert island, what would be the 3 things would need with you?” - I’d probably list that quote as one of the possessions.
