I’ll listen to Wu-Tang say “hoe,” because they don’t really objectify women but caricaturize an attitude towards women. There’s a stark difference between that and mainstream contemporary hip-hop pandering to idiotic fetishes of women.

Definitely don’t disagree there. I just feel like I conflate levels there because I don’t really like mainstream contemporary hip-hop for aesthetic reasons too, so I can’t tell where I’m actually dividing the line. That’s just a personal note though.

That is an interesting/important distinction though. I don’t really have anything to comment on it right now, because I haven’t really thought it through (i.e. thought about it while listening to possibly problematic/misogynistic music or whatever), but I’ll definitely have to keep it somewhere in my mind.
